Nigel Oxley
Nigel Oxley HON. RE
After graduating from Camberwell School of Art and Crafts, Nigel Oxley joined the etching studio White Ink. During eight years there he worked with numerous artists including Dame Elisabeth Frink, Sir Sidney Nolan, Victor Pasmore and Eduardo Paolozzi. After leaving White Ink he was invited by Chris Prater to set up an etching studio within the renowned Kelpra Studio.
As Master Printer/Etcher he continued working with Frink and Nolan and with many other well-known artists such as Joe Tilson, John Hoyland, Jim Dine, Patrick Heron, Gordon House and John Piper. He established a reputation for complex, multi- colour, multi-plate etchings requiring an innovative approach to both etching and printing. By the time he left Kelpra he had set up his own studio in East Sussex where he worked with Gordon House. He had also started teaching at the Sir John Cass School of Art London, becoming Senior Lecturer in Etching and Life Drawing. His book ‘Colour Etching’ was published by A&C Black in 2007. He is co-founder of Prism Print International (currently exhibiting in Venice).
In 2024 he was elected an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter/ Printmakers (RE).
